Politics - Other Placement experiences

In the United Kingdom, some universities offer short/ research-based placements as part of their undergraduate courses in Politics/International Relations.  Most run in the final year of undergraduate study.  One of the underlying arguments of the Scholarship of Engagement for Politics project is that placement learning may be more beneficial to student learning if undertaken earlier in their degree course.  There are two examples of placement learning in the second year of undergraduate courses outside of our project:

'Active Politics', a second year module at Leeds Metropolitan University.  See http://www.leedsmet.ac.uk/as/sss/descriptors.htm

'Applied Political Research', a second year module at the University of Northumbria.  See http://sits.unn.ac.uk/live/webserv/module.php?mcr=UUFPOL1&code=GO0206

The best known example of placement learning in the final year is at the University of Hull, which has been running a placement scheme for over twenty years.  Professor Lord Norton of Louth of the University of Hull, organises year long placements, allowing 3rd year Politics students to spend a year at Westminster. For more information see The Westminster Model - Lord Nortons study http://www.c-sap.bham.ac.uk/resources/project_reports/findings/ShowFinding.asp?id=145
