Placement providers who contributed to the project and our research are:

Andrew Smith MP, Labour MP for Oxford East
Andrew Smith was a City Councillor for Blackbird Leys before being elected to Parliament, and chaired Committees on local planning, recreation and race relations.  He served as Minister for Employment, as Chief Secretary to the Treasury and Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (1997 to 2004).  He brought in Labour’s New Deal to help young and long term unemployed people into jobs, he oversaw big increases in spending on health, education and overseas aid, and brought in the Pension Credit and the Pension Protection Fund. In Parliament, Andrew has taken up a wide range of issues, especially health, housing, pensions, climate change, international development, and employment in shops and the car industry.  He has also worked with Amnesty International on human rights in China.

Birmingham Race Action Partnership (b:rap), Birmingham
An National Government Organisation whose aim is to make equality work for everyone – and make a sustainable difference, by working with others to better understand how practice may be improved in ways that reduce inequality - by working for the betterment of society. Their Mission is to help people, communities and the organisations that serve them, turn equality into reality.

Bob Ainsworth MP, Coventry North East
Bob Ainsworth is MP for Coventry North East, and Government Deputy Chief Whip and Treasurer of Her Majesty’s Household. Bobs previous roles were as a City Councillor for Coventry City Council in 1984 – 1992 during which time he held the positions of Deputy Leader of the Council and Chairman of the Finance Committee. In Government he has been Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury 1997-2001 (Government Whip), Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Department for Environment, Transport and the Regions January 2001- June 2001, Home Office Minister with responsibility for Drugs and organised Crime 2001 – June 2003, when he was appointed to his current position Government Deputy Chief Whip and treasurer of Her Majesty's Household.

Coventry City Council, Coventry
Coventry City Council is the biggest organisation in Coventry. Its 16,000 employees are headed by the Chief Executive, who manages the day-to-day running of the council, and who works alongside a Management Board of a further nine senior officers each with his or her particular portfolio. All 54 councillors (representing 18 wards across the city), make major decisions about policies and services at Full Council meetings, held in the Council chamber every 6 weeks.

The Elmore team are a registered charity, and independent community services team, located in Oxford. The Elmore team are managed by Elmore Community Services, who are a leading provider of quality and flexible services for marginalised and disenfranchised people. The team provides practical help, emotional support, advocacy and outreach for people with complex needs, and their local communities in which they live.

Geoffrey Robinson MP, Coventry North West
Geoffrey Robinson was elected Member of Parliament for Coventry North West in March 1976. Prior to this, his previous roles were Senior Executive and Financial positions in the motor Industry. Geoffrey served as the Paymaster General for the Treasury from1997 - 98. Geoffrey is also a member of the Transport and General Workers union.

Government Office of West Midlands, Birmingham
The Central West Midland Government Office collates the work of the 10 Central Government Departments, and reflects the regions views, needs and interests back to central government at Whitehall, London. The Government Office for the West Midlands also co-ordinates the delivery and comprehension of government policy for this region, representing and undertaking work on behalf of eleven Government Departments.

Jim Cunningham MP, Coventry South
Jim is currently: Chairman of the labour Party Departmental Committee for the treasury since 1999, Secretary to the All-Party Funerals and Bereavement Group since 2002, Member of the Select committee on Lord Chancellor’s Department since 2003, as well as Chair of the Labour Party Departmental Committee for the Treasury since 1999. Previous to this Jim was a councillor for Coventry City Council in a variety of influential roles, until he was elected as MP for Coventry South in 1992.

Liz Lynne MEP, Stratford-upon-Avon
Liz Lynne is the Liberal Democrat MEP for the West Midlands region. She has held previous roles as a Member of Parliament for Rochdale 1992 – 97, a Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Health & Community Care 1992-94, and Social Security and Disability in 1994-97. She is currently a Member of European Parliament for the West Midlands region since 1999, holding many posts, including: Liberal Democrat spokesperson on Employment and Social Affairs, Member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, Substitute for Committee on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as a Member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia and the South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), and many other numerous roles.

Malcolm Harbour MEP, Brussels
Malcolm is coordinator for centre-right MEPs on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee. He is a substitute member of the Industry, Research and Energy committee, and also a substitute member of the Legal Affairs committee. As a Conservative Internal Market Spokesperson, Malcolm is crusading for more open and de-regulated markets, on services with existing barriers. He regularly tables oral & written parliamentary questions to the European commission. Some of his other roles include Founder Co-Chairman of the Forum for the Automobile and Society, and Co-Chairperson of the European Parliaments Ceramic Industry forum.

Minorities of Europe, Coventry
Established in 1995, as a result of the Council of Europe’s campaign against racism, anti-semitism, xenophobia and intolerance, across the continent of Europe. Minorities of Europe (MOE) is a ‘Pan European Inter-minority network’ which seeks to support and assist the co-operation, solidarity and exchange between different minority communities and young people in Europe.

Oxfam, Oxford
Oxfam - GB is an independent charitable organisation, and part of a global movement to build a just and safer world – bringing registered development, relief, and a campaigning organisation, that works with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering around the world. Oxfam develop programs and solutions that empower people to overcome poverty, and campaign to achieve lasting change, as well as providing aid, support and protection during emergencies.

Oxfordshire County Council, Oxford
Oxfordshire County Council is Conservative controlled, and consists of five district councils which has 74 elected councillors to represent all its areas. Oxfordshire elects six MPs to Parliament, and is part of the South East region that elects 11 MEPs to the European Parliament. Oxfordshire County Council is responsible for providing around 80% of all local government services to the services of Oxfordshire, including schools, social services, the fire service, roads, libraries and the museum service, trading standards, land use, transport planning and waste management.

Oxford User Team (Substance Misuse Arrest Referral Team), Oxford
Oxford User Team (OUT) is an independent and innovative charity working with drug users and user groups in Oxfordshire and South East England. OUT works in partnership with drug service providers, commissioners and related organisations to improve treatment, provision and reduce the negative impact of drug use on health, safety and social wellbeing of individuals in the wider community. OUT works to ensure that effective treatment is provided for all users of drug treatment services, as well as delivering regular workshops on overdose prevention and response, there is also an advocacy service for drug users.

SMART (Substance Misuse Arrest Referral Team) Criminal Justice System
A charitable organisation concerned with engaging and treating drug users directly, by means of their involvement with the Criminal Justice System. SMART Criminal Justice System operates in the Thames Valley area including Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire. Their main concerns are drug thorough-care and aftercare programmes, with education and training opportunities.

West Midlands in Europe, Brussels
West Midlands in Europe is one of the most widely representative regional partnerships for European affairs with a presence in Brussels, representing over 90 regional organisations, from members from the public, private and voluntary sectors in the West Midlands. This helps the West Midlands to play an active role in shaping and influencing emerging EU policy and legislation and provide a platform for regional partners' dialogue with policy and decision makers in Brussels. West Midlands in Europe also makes connections with partners across Europe for trade and business, EU funded projects and Joint Ventures, as well as to help promote the West Midlands as a premier region to an international audience.
