Student Placement Experiences

A vital part of our project has been to evaluate the experiences of both our placement students and placement providers. Here are some of our student experiences:

'Who'd have thought something that you learn in a class room would actually be relevant in real life! The main reason I undertook this placement was to see how much was relevant, and to see the actual, physical consequences of the theory that is learnt in lectures, so this was particularly useful as far as I was concerned.'
'In sum my first impressions were very good indeed – the staff seem both friendly and committed and have been very welcoming.’
‘One of the things which has impressed me most about [this organisation] is its apparent commitment to informing its staff about the organization and its work in all parts of the world. It seems that whilst the working environment is both friendly and relatively laid back, there exists a professional and committed ethos.'
As I was walking up the stairs I was struck by the mixture of young and old staff within the organization as I looked around still getting used to my new surroundings. I have already met a number of staff of different ages and different nationalities.’
‘The work has been very interesting, and I'm incredibly grateful that my placement have given me a project where I'm not just making tea and doing the photocopying- the review that I am currently undertaking gives me a lot of freedom for personal thinking and reflection, rather than just working through a checklist of things to do.’
‘I am generally looking forward to the placement: I quite wish it was longer really. I can already imagine myself working in a place like that….tomorrow we go to the full council meeting at which the budget for the next year is determined. It will be controversial because this is when the council tax is set. Should be fun.
‘First day… and it seems that this placement will be very helpful to me.’
‘My placement…..starts on Monday, with an induction, and runs until the first week of the Easter holidays. Quite looking forward to it really, makes a change from sitting in lectures and writing
